See first-hand how Shields & Stripes is making a difference for first responders and veterans.
This Veteran’s Day was a significant one for Shields & Stripes, as we received an incredible $45,000 grant from The Step Up Foundation, led by Sara Wilkinson. Sara, a dear friend and a passionate advocate for mental health, founded The Step Up Foundation in honor of her late husband, Chad Wilkinson. Chad, a former Navy SEAL, inspired this mission through his dedication to climbing mountains, both literal and figurative.
The Step Up Foundation is a non-profit that is deeply committed to addressing the mental health crisis affecting our nation’s heroes. Their mission is to empower organizations like ours, who are actively working to provide support and care to veterans.
This weekend was about more than receiving a grant, it was about joining a community united by a shared purpose. We had the honor of participating in CHAD1000X, presented by Rogue Fitness, Go Ruck, and CrossFit. This challenge of completing 1000 step-ups, an annual nationwide event, began as mountain climbing training for Chad, and has grown into a powerful movement to raise awareness for mental health in his honor.
Together with hundreds of community members in-person and virtually, we shared our stories and strengthened our commitment to making a difference. During the event, we were fortunate to spend time with friends Kayla and Kyle Arestivo from Trails of Purpose in person for the first time. They, too, are making incredible strides in addressing mental health issues among our heroes with their non-profit.

As Sara Wilkinson so wisely says, “Together, we can do hard things.”
That sentiment resonates deeply with our mission, and it’s the driving force behind the work we do every day.
The $45,000 grant from The Step Up Foundation will directly support three of our heroes and their families through Shields & Stripes’ life-changing program. These funds will provide comprehensive care, addressing both mental and physical health, and creating lasting transformations for those who have given so much in service to our country.
To Sara Wilkinson, The Step Up Foundation team, and everyone who participated in this meaningful event: thank you for your generosity, your belief in our mission, and your dedication to helping our heroes.
If you’d like to join us in our mission to support veterans and first responders, please consider donating to Shields & Stripes or participating in one of our upcoming events. Thank you for your support!
