The Workout

This workout is a unique opportunity to confront the inevitability of hitting your limit, both in the workout and in life. It’s not just about facing failure but experiencing the essence of life itself. Life’s significance comes from its impermanence.

This month, challenge yourself to face life’s difficulties with open eyes, heart, and awareness. How we approach and endure these challenges shapes us for better or worse.

Minute 1:

100 foot Sled Push*

Minute 2:

Burpee Burnout*

Minute 3:

Rest

*If you fail, return to the last successful round of burpees and hold it as long as you can. Continue this until the final round (minute 59), then perform the burpees you initially failed.

    Prescription

    This workout centers on choice. You determine the sled’s weight and how many burpees to add each minute and whether to increase by 1 or push yourself with increments of 2.

    Pay attention to your inner dialogue during the rest. These moments are about mental reflection and recovery. Embrace the challenge and see what it reveals about your mind

    Sled:

    Choose a load that takes about 30-40 seconds to push. It should be challenging but still allow time for rest. The weight shouldn’t be maxed, but it shouldn’t be too light either.

    • Substitution – Use a fan bike (matching calories from a hard 45-second effort) or a 10m shuttle run.

    Burpees:

    Focus on doing your best burpees each time. Maintain effort rather than compromising form. You can scale burpees as needed, whether it’s a no push-up burpee, step-back/step-up, or elevating your hands.

    Mindset: See It Through

    At BTE, we believe the freedom to make choices that are crucial for our well-being. However, choices also bring unforeseen consequences like a domino effect extending beyond our control.

    The “See It Through” mindset encourages releasing the urge to predict or control the outcomes of our choices. Instead of fixating on the unknown, focus on what you can control, and trust the process.

    Apply this mindset in your workout: make your choice, commit to it, and see it through.

    Spend 5 minutes freely writing your thoughts and emotions.

    Prompts:

    • Identify an area or goal in your life where you can “See It Through.”
    • Reflect on how your internal dialogue changed throughout the workout.
    • How did your experience evolve from start to finish?
