First Responders and police are at a 5 x higher risk of experiencing mental health problems due to constant exposure to death and destruction. Veteran Suicide reporting derived from VA 2021 National Veteran Suicide Prevention Annual Report & Americas Warrior Partnership, Operation Deep Dive.
Did you know between 17 and 44 veterans commit suicide daily?
The previous report of 17.2 a day reporting doesn’t account for accidents, undetermined, reported self-harm, or overdoses, resulting in undercounting errors.
Firefighters
Were lost to suicide compared to 93 lost in the line of duty
Police officers
Were lost to suicide compared to 129 lost in the line of duty
Veterans
Were lost to suicide since 2001 compared to 7052 members killed in action in Afghanistan and Iraq
